The South Metropolitan Regional Higher Education Consortium is a partnership of colleges, universities, high schools and hospitals working together to extend collectively its resources to meet the educational and training needs of the region.

Through cooperation and collaboration these colleges and universities have offered staff and faculty development, shared library resources, conducted needs assessments, offered articulation workshops to assist students with transfer options, and provided greater accessibility to higher education through a distance learning network.

Membership
Voting membership is available to all accredited public or private higher education institutions with a campus and administrative offices in the region.

Affiliate membership is open to all other higher education institutions offering an approved degree program in he region.

Associate membership is open to any secondary school, hospital, government agency, or business located in the region.

South Met EdNet
SMRHEC manages the South Met EdNet, a 30 site live interactive video network with classrooms located throughout the south metropolitan region and beyond.  The hub for the network is located with the Consortium Office on the campus of Governor's State University.  The network is used to deliver live instruction and training within Illinois and beyond.

The primary purpose of the network is to provide access to higher education degrees, courses and programs to the citizens of our region and to support, through video-conferencing, the needs of the business and not-for-profit community.
