I. Turn System On
A. Classroom –
Turn the main power switch (Figure1) ON
(up) the
switch is located inside left cabinet door. |

B. Computer - Turn on the
computer power (Figure 2) and then the monitor and
log into the system using your assigned username and password for the
ONU network. You may need to change the context when logging in if the
last person to use the computer was not a member of your
department/division. Click here
to find your correct context. If you are not going to use anything
else in the system, go no further.

C.
VCR - In order to show Videos, you need to turn on the
VCR combo inside the cabinet. Insert your VHS tape into
deck.

D. Projector - Point the projector remote at the
projector and press the power button. To project the
computer screen press the DATA 1 button, the VCR press
Video 1, video conferencing press Video 2.

E. Polycom Video Conferencing - to turn the
polycom system on, pick up the polycom remote.
*NOTE: It is the Polycom Remote that controls the
volume.

II. VCR Instructions
A. On the Projector remote,
press the Video
2 button
B. On the Polycom remote
press the Near button twice. Select the third option (VCR)
C. Make sure the VCR
power is on.
D. Place your video
inside the VCR
E.
Press Play on the VCR
F.
After you are done with the VCR and you want to return to
displaying the computer, press the DATA 1 button on the projector
remote. This will return you to displaying the computer
screen.

III. Using an External Laptop
A. Connect a laptop using
the 15 pin monitor cable (provided in the teaching station) from the back of the laptop to the
computer 2 jack
inside the desk (Figure 5.). Press the
DATA 2
button on the projector remote
B. Press both the
Fn button and either F5 (most
laptops) or F7 at the same time to send the laptop signal to the projector. You may need to press this more than once to achieve
the right setting. Most laptops have three settings: a) image on projector, not
monitor, b) image on monitor, not projector, or c) image on monitor AND
projector.
C. NOTE!
Whenever an external laptop is plugged in, it's screen will take precedence over
the teaching stations computer. To view the computer in the teaching station
again you must disconnect the laptop from the port.
D. If your
laptop presentation has audio you would need to use the mini plug attached to the monitor
cable. Plug it into the laptop's headphone jack and into the computer 2 audio
jack. (see
Figure 5.)

III. DVD/CD-ROM Instructions
A. Put your DVD disk
in the CD-ROM/DVD drive in the computer
B. From the desktop, double
click on the smart classroom folder
C. Double click on the DVD
Player folder
D. Double click on the DVD
Player icon.
E. Your DVD should then auto
play on it’s own. If it doesn’t, click the play button on the menu
panel.
F. If you need to adjust the
volume, press the Vol +/- button on the AV Wall switch.
G. If the DVD has a catalog
function in it, click on the menu button, which will allow you to pick
any section of the movie you would like to view. |

How to Play Scheduled Media - With the ability to control streaming
video from within the classroom, the classroom becomes a virtual communication
center rich with information. The instructor has the ability to control
any of the traditional video sources such as laser disks, television programming,
satellite programming, DV cam, VHS, and SVHS as well as access to the Internet.
A. Procedures for
scheduling media for the system is available at http://media.olivet.edu/smartcr/pathway.html.
Bookmark this URL for future convenience. You now have an option to schedule
media and equipment over the internet, straight from your office or at
home. If you have not requested a Pathway password call 5302 and have
one created. You can access the online scheduler, called Pathway Scheduler
by clicking http://172.17.15.10/Scheduler/logon.asp.

B.
How to play scheduled media in the classroom.
1. On the computer
desktop double click on the Smart Classroom folder (Fig.
5)

2. In the Smart
Classroom folder double click on the WinRemote32 Icon (Fig.
6)

3. At the Safari
Win Remote login screen type your login Name and Password (Fig.
7) See step 'A' above to get a Login Name and Password
4. On the Projector remote,
press the Video
2 button. On the Polycom remote
press the Near button twice. Select the third option (VCR). Make sure the VCR
power is on.

5. If you have
reserved a media title through the Safari/Pathway Scheduler
it will appear on the WinRemote Screen (Fig.
8) The titles will only appear during the
scheduled times.
6. Click on the
appropriate title and a control window will open.(start, stop, fast forward,
rewind, pause, etc.) Press the play icon and the
video will be shown.
7. Program volume is
controlled from the projector remote
8. When the scheduled time
is over the video controls will disappear from the computer screen. Closing
Win Remote will disconnect the video signal also.

V. Polycom Video Conferencing
A. Pick up Polycom remote
B. Turn projector on Video 2

IX. Turn System Off
A. Close all
open windows on the computer desktop as you would in your office.
B. Shut down the computer
(WAIT UNTIL COMPUTER COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN!)
C. Turn off the computer (Figure
2) if it does not turn off automatically.
