I.  Turn system on
A.  Classroom – Turn the main power switch(Fig.1)ON- the switch is located inside left cabinet door (Push switch for ON, Pull switch for OFF). ****Leave this on for 30 seconds before turning on the computer!****

B. Computer - Turn on the CPU power (Fig. 2) and then the monitor and log into the system as you would in your office. You may need to change the context when logging in if the last person to use the computer was not a member of your department/division. Click here to find your correct context. If you are not going to use anything else in the system go no further.

C. Turn on the projector by aiming the projector remote (Fig. 3)at the projector and holding down the green STANDBY/ON button for 3 seconds.

II.  Projector Remote Control (Fig. 3)
The projector remote control should be kept on the shelf inside the cabinet.  This remote controls the source to be projected and controls the level of sound.  You will need to use the remote to turn the power on by holding the green STANDBY/ON button for 3 seconds (aiming it at the projector).
A.  Press the Video button and select Video 1 to project video (safari system etc.) 
B.  Press the RGB button to project the computer screen. 
C.   If pressing the RGB or Video button fails to bring up a picture on the screen be sure the projector is on by pressing the Power button on the remote. 
D.   Use the Volume + or -  buttons to control audio volume. 

 
III.  Using the SMARTBoard
Note: SMARTBoard automatically engages after logging in to Windows NT.

A. If the master power switch is on, the computer is on, and the RGB1 button on the remote has been pressed, the computer image should be seen on the SMARTBoard. Call 5302 if there is any problem.
B. Move to the SMARTBoard 
C.  Use finger as mouse - single clicking and double clicking where appropriate To right click - press right mouse button on pen tray.  If the arrow does not appear immediately underneath your finger tip when you press the board, follow the Orienting the SMART Board instructions below.
D.   To "write" with "markers"  Choose the desired color stylus and write on the board as if  it was a white board.  DO NOT use dry erase markers on SMARTBoard 
E.   When finished writing - BE SURE to place stylus back in the corresponding color tray. (Pens write according to tray color they are taken from, not pen color) 
F.   Use the Eraser to erase selected areas or if all markers and  the eraser are back in the tray a single tap on the board will erases everything. Note: All writing WILL be erased when the board is touched after styluses and eraser are replaced.

 
Orienting the SMART Board

A. Double-click the SMART Classroom folder on the desktop (if the floating SMART Board window is open in the bottom right corner of your desktop, skip to step D)
B. Double-click the SMART Board folder
C. Double-click the SMART Board or SMART Board drivers icon
D. Click Control Panel (Fig. A) on the floating SMART Board window in the bottom right corner of your screen

E. Choose Orient (Fig. B) on the Control Panel window

F. With one finger, press on the SMART Board (Fig. C) for each point as the screen directs you
G. Once you have pressed all of the points, the board will be oriented and ready for you to use

IV. DVD/CD-ROM Operating Instructions

A. Make sure the projector is on RGB
B. Put your disc in the CD-ROM/DVD Drive in the computer

C. If the CD doesn't play automatically:

  • Double-click Windows Media Player on the desktop
  • Click CD Audio on the left
  • Click the Play butto

D. If the DVD doesn't play automatically:

  • From the desktop, double-click on the smart classroom folder
  • Double click on the DVD Player folder
  • Double click on the DVD station icon.
  • Your DVD should then auto play on it’s own.  If it doesn’t, click the play button on the menu panel.
  • If you need to adjust the volume, use the remote control for the projector
  • If the DVD has a catalog function in it, click on the menu button, which will allow you to pick any section of the movie you would like to view.
 
V. VCR Operating Instructions
A. Press the Video button on the projector remote to project your video 
B. Turn the VCR power on
C. Place your video inside the VCR
D. Press Play
E. Press the RGB button to return to the computer screen when the video is done
 

VI. Audio Receiver Instructions

A. Make sure the receiver is on
B. Select the appropriate button on the receiver depending on the media you are playing (Video - CD - Tape)
C. Make sure the VCR, CD Player, or Tape Player is on
D. If you are using the VCR, press the Video button on the projector remote
E. Operate the VCR, CD Player, or Tape Player as normal

VII. How to Play Scheduled Media - With the ability to control streaming video from within the classroom, the classroom becomes a virtual communication center rich with information. The instructor has the ability to control any of the traditional video sources such as laser disks, television programming, satellite programming, DV cam, VHS, and SVHS as well as access to the Internet. 
A. Procedures for scheduling media for the system is available at http://media.olivet.edu/smartcr/pathway.html. Bookmark this URL for future convenience. You now have an option to schedule media and equipment over the internet, straight from your office or at home. If you have not requested a Pathway password call 5302 and have one created. You can access the online scheduler, called Pathway Scheduler by clicking http://172.17.15.10/Scheduler/logon.asp.
 
 
B. How to play scheduled media in the classroom. 
1. On the computer desk-top double click on the Smart Classroom folder (Fig. 4

2. In the Smart Classroom folder double click on the Safari folder (Fig. 5

3. In the Safari folder double click on the shortcut to Winrem 32 (Fig.6

4. At the Safari Win Remote login screen type your login Name and Password (Fig. 7)  See step 'A' above to get a Login Name and Password 
5. Be sure to select Video as your input source on the projector remote 
6. Be sure VCR is on! Safari will not work if the VCR power is not on.

7. If you have reserved a media title through the Safari/Pathway Scheduler it will appear on the WinRemote Screen (Fig. 9The titles will only appear during the scheduled times.
8. Click on the appropriate title and a control window will open.(start, stop, fast forward, rewind, pause, etc.) Press the play icon and the video will be shown.
9. Program volume is controlled from the projector remote 
10. When the scheduled time is over the video controls will disappear from the computer screen. Closing Win Remote will disconnect the video signal also.

VIII. Turn off the system 
A.  Close all open windows on the computer desktop as you would in your office.
B.  Shut down the computer (WAIT UNTIL COMPUTER COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN!)
C.  Turn off the computer (Fig. 1) if it does not turn off automatically
D. Turn the main power switch off(Fig. 2)(The switch is located inside left cabinet door) 
E. Lock the cabinet door
